In preparation for my son's wedding two weeks ago, I canvassed a bunch of friends for advice on the hallmarks of a good wedding speech. Here's what they said:
1) keep it brief
2) speak from the heart - not the cuff
3) don't try and be funny unless you are actually funny
And whatever you do, don't write a speech down and read it verbatim.
